CrimeReportsLive is a web-enabled system that allows a person to search for reported crimes through a simple online user interface. By entering a zip code, a person can see on a map what crimes have taken place in that zip code area within the past 30 days. Color-coded “bubbles” on the map differentiate the types of crimes, and clicking on any of the displayed bubbles allows the person to see the details of that report, including where it took place, when it took place, what type of location it was and the case number for further investigation. The detailed view also includes a key with a definition of the crime type and related crimes. The system uses data that has been entered by the reporting officers and subsequently “cleaned” to remove content that might be inappropriate for public viewing. Each time the reports are updated by local law enforcement, the new information is available for display on CrimeReportsLive within a matter of minutes.

Anyone who comes to CrimeReportsLive.com can use the system for free to find crime for the last 30 days within a specific zip code. This non-member functionality is free to anyone who visits the site. Anyone who wishes to use the enhanced system features can subscribe as a member at any time.

Members who subscribe to CrimeReportsLive can also receive crime alerts via emails or cell phone text messages. Once a person has subscribed as a member, they can create an alert profile in their account that specifies the geographical location, types of crimes and location types (such as parking garages or shopping malls) for which they'd like to receive alerts when incidents have been reported. Once the information has been entered by local law enforcement as a police report and updated in their database, the CrimeReportsLive system will alert the member that a crime which fits their profile criteria has taken place.
